The announcement came on April 21—the event’s originally scheduled opening date—halting plans made during the winter to hold out for a July 2021 show.
The cancellation marks the second time Aero Friedrichshafen has fallen prey to the pandemic. As of now, the next time frame for aviation’s “global show” is April 27 through 30, 2022, Aero Friedrichshafen said in a news release.
“It is with a heavy heart that we have made this decision to cancel the leading trade show for General Aviation for the second time,” Aero Friedrichshafen head Roland Bosch and Project Manager Tobias Bretzel said. “However, a decision at this point in time is right and fair. We are now creating planning certainty for our exhibitors, visitors and suppliers.”
In the coming months, digital content will be offered “on a regular basis outside of the classic trade show period.”
The officials said they are hoping for better luck this fall when the European Rotors trade show is scheduled to take place in Cologne, Germany, from November 16 through 18.
In an upbeat preview of next year, they said Aero Friedrichshafen 2022 will be “all about the industry’s restart after the pandemic and will offer a complete range of products for all sectors of General Aviation.”
Everything from drones to gliders, microlights, gyrocopters, piston-powered aircraft, turboprops, and business jets will be present.
As for innovation, look for focal points including “sustainable aviation, new propulsion systems, state-of-the-art avionics, services and accessories for pilots,” they said.
