Fly home for the holidays

If you fly yourself, share your travel adventures through the AOPA app’s Pilot Passport feature for a chance to win an AOPA fleece zip hooded sweatshirt ;from the AOPA Pilot Gear Store. The “Home for the Holidays Challenge” runs the month of November and encourages pilots to earn region badges. The three participants with the most region badges will win a hoodie.

To earn a region badge, you’ll definitely be doing some fun flying—you might want to strategically plan your route. “Region badges are earned by getting all the state badges within that region of the same level,” according to the Pilot Passport webpage. “For example, earning all the silver state badges in the central southwest region will earn you the silver central southwest region badge.”

The three participants with the most region badges in the November "Home for the Holidays Challenge" will win an AOPA fleece zip hooded sweatshirt.

On your quest for region badges, you’ll need to earn state badges along the way. To do that, check in at a certain number of airports in each state in a region. Most states require you to check into at least five distinct airports in the state to get a bronze level badge (states with fewer than five airports require fewer check-ins). State badges range from bronze to platinum.

So, to earn a bronze badge for the Central Southwest region, you would first need earn a bronze badge for each of the nine states in that region. (For complete details, see the official rules.)

Have fun flying to see your family, and check in along the way in the Pilot Passport challenge.
