The nonprofit GIFT also plans to resume its annual academy in Vernon, Texas, scheduled for October 10 through 16.
CFI Mary Latimer created GIFT in 2010 to address a need to provide women low-cost flight instruction in a supportive setting to help them advance. Yearly events held in Vernon have produced solos, checkrides, successful knowledge tests, and more. Pilots at all levels are invited.
GIFT events halted in 2020 because of COVID-19. This year, the organization is taking its successful formula on the road, as well as returning to Vernon. Volunteers donate time and/or aircraft to the effort. The immersive event allows participants to network and create friendships within the aviation community.
Wisconsin GIFT Week will take place at Sheboygan County Memorial Airport in Sheboygan. Registration is $250, which covers ground and flight training and lunch and snacks each day.
